9 Wesley Design Office

Located on Wesley Street, Lagos Island, the Nine Wesley Building which is also 9W Design office is a 4-storey structure. The new building is architecturally anchored in the famous Lagos Island skyline which houses old residential buildings with vernacular colonial architecture with the new high-rise and scrappers with an international style expression.

The small footprint of the building was the main design dilemma to overcome - how to design a multi-floor building that could house all the facilities needed to function and create lettable space. We created an open floor arrangement for a collaborative work environment on the suspended floors with the ground floor reserved for reception and parking where the building is suspended on pilotis and beams.

The International Style approach with its characteristic modular form, clean lines, minimal ornamentation, and extensive use of glass, is a design approach that transcends cultural and geographic boundaries. At the heart of this design is the curtain wall and glass fins that envelop the building in a sleek and transparent façade. Texture and pattern were introduced in the form with the use of tiles and a trowel paint finish on the adjacent faces of the curtain wall.

It reflects the firm's approach to innovation and contemporary design. Beyond aesthetics, the curtain wall design prioritizes energy efficiency, sustainability, and brand expression, culminating in an iconic structure that stands as a testament to the fusion of form and function.
